Installed within a railway station, the Musée d'Orsay opened its gates on December 9th 1986, after it had been inaugurated by François Mitterand on December 1st. Within its walls there are six different collections (painting, photography, graphic art, architecture, sculpture and objet d'art), which mainly come from three different establishments: the Louvre Museum, the Musée du Jeu de Paume and the National Museum of Modern art. The collections cover the years spanning from 1848 to 1915, with works by Courbet, Corot, Renoir, Van Gogh, Signac and Cézanne, to name but a few. The building was designed by three architects: Lucien Magne, Emile Bénard and Victor Laloux and its conversion in a museum was studied and made possible by Renaud Bardon, Pierre Colboc and Jean-Paul Philippon.

09.30 AM - 06.30 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
09.30 AM - 09.45 PM on Thursday.
Monday closed.
