Considered as being the first gothic building (whose addiction changed the lines and styles of the place in a Rayonnant style), St. Denis Abbey erection began in 1136, ending four years later. The Abbey is located in the suburbs of Paris, and was used - in the past - as coronation site for the Queens of France. Moreover, it was used as burial site for the royal family (and its's the reason why the place is know as being the Royal necropolis of France), and it is exactly here that you can find the tombs of Luis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Apart from the tombs, there are several other features which cannot go amiss during a visit, such as the rose window on the facade and the stained glass windows in the chevet.
